WIND FARM PROJECT

This project is an important one in Ontario’s quest for renewable power sources and is the province’s first full-scale commercial wind farm. The project features 45, 1.5 MW GE wind turbines strategically placed across 3 511 hectares of land and will produce 67.5 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the Ontario Grid. This power is delivered to the grid by the transmission line built by The K-Line Group. As a trusted sub contractor, K-Line brings its decades of overhead line installation experience to the project ensuring strict timelines are met and job safety is a priority. K-Line is quickly building its reputation for wind power construction and Balance of Plant solutions.

K-Line Group of Companies was responsible for:

  • Installation of – 433 concrete and 193 wood poles; 173 km of overhead 636 MCM, ASCR conductor; 26 km of fibre optic cable.
  • A triple circuit collection system; 34.5 kV circuit constructed from the turbine locations to a substation 12 km away on 70 & 75 ft. Class k concrete poles using K-Line insulators.  A construction time frame of September to December 31 2005.
