Ripley Wind Project

The remarkable development known as the Ripley Wind Project is the latest wind turbine project to be constructed by The K-Line Group of Companies. This project will provide 76 megawatts (MW) – or 216,000 megawatt hours of electricity per year to the Ontario grid. This power is being produced by 38 soaring Enercon E82 wind turbines. The K-Line Group brings a full complement of highly trained personnel in all areas of high voltage construction and has a large and diverse fleet to fulfill even the most demanding projects. K-Line Maintenance & Construction, along with K-Tek, the engineering/design division, have become trusted partners to many high voltage projects such as this. 

K-Line Group of Companies was responsible for:

  • Surveying of site
  • K-Tek provided engineering and design for the project
  • Construction of access roadways to turbines and improved intersections
  • Installation of a 34.5 kV underground collection system (#4/0, 500-1000MCM wire)
  • Installation of a 27 km 69 kV transmission line (approximately 425 poles)
  • Installation of a 34.5 kV overhead collection system (100 poles)
  • Construction of the north 230 kV/69 kV transformer station know as Majestic
  • Construction of the south 69 kV/34.5 kV transformer station known as Ripley
  • Grounding of turbine foundations
  • Installation of OPGW fiber optic skywire cable (for communications between sub-stations)
  • Installation of DVAR (Dynamic Volt-Ampere-Reactive) system at Ripley substation.
