In the dead of winter on the frigid plains of southern Manitoba, the K-Line Western crew worked hard to complete their scope quickly so that Phase 1 of the St. Leon Wind Energy Project could qualify for critical CRCE credits. It was an aggressive schedule in an aggressive climate, but K-Line Western was chosen for the task because of their cold-climate experience and its track record of success. One significant challenge was to ensure the extensive trenching and construction did not negatively affect the agricultural use of the land. K-Line Western performed as promised, and their scope was completed on schedule. This project features 63 Vestas V82 wind turbines and produces 99 MW of power.
K-Line Group of Companies was responsible for:
- Project Management
- Site Superintendence
- Procurement and installation of 34.5 kV collection system
- Installation of 31 km of 3-phase underground cable in 12 weeks
- Commissioning of padmount transformers, power cables, and fibre optics
