K-Line Sponsors Charity Golf Tournament : Sep 28, 2016

On Thursday, September 8th PowerStream held its 13th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at the Nottawasaga Inn & Golf Resort. As in previous years, K-Line Maintenance & Construction Ltd. and K-Line Insulators Ltd. were pleased to stand as Titanium Sponsors for the event. This charity golf tournament is important to K-Line as all proceeds are donated to both the York Region & Toronto and Greater Simcoe County agencies of the United Way. In 2015, the tournament raised over $100,000 for the United Way, bringing their total since 2008 to over $500,000. A special guest attending the tournament was Guy LaFleur. Guy Lafleur is a former Canadian hockey player in the NHL. Guy was the first person in the NHL to score 50 goals and 100 points in six straight seasons. Another Successful Year of K-Line Annual General Meetings : Jun 1, 2016

Another year of K-Line AGMs have come and gone! This years AGMs had a new twist; our Annual General Meetings were included as part of our monthly safety meetings throughout our three provinces. This new change allowed for a fresh take on the Annual General Meetings. AGMs kicked off this year on April 25th in Regina and in Lethbridge April 26th & 27th. Ontario AGMs took place across the province throughout the month of May. This year’s official theme supported the  launch of  K-Line’s Mission, Vision and Values statements.

K-Line Receives Heavy Construction Safety Association of Saskatchewan Safety Award : Apr 28, 2016

Last month, K-Line attended the Safety Awards held by the Heavy Construction Safety Association of Saskatchewan. The safety awards are awarded annually to the company with the best record of safety within their payroll group. The selection committee evaluates the individual companies performance in preventing accidents, and their safety program. The company with the best record is presented with the award. This year,     K-Line was proud to be the recipient of the “Group A” Safety Award. Accepting the award on behalf of   K-Line was Curtis Kormos, Corporate Account Manager.

A Victory for the K-Line Team! : Nov 26, 2015

Launched in 2011, Canada's Safest Employers Awards recognize companies from all across Canada with outstanding accomplishments in promoting the health and safety of their employees. The award boasts 10 industry-specific categories, ranging from hospitality to mining and natural resources. Companies are judged on a wide range of occupational health and safety elements, including employee training, Occupational Heath and Safety management systems, incident investigations, emergency preparedness and innovative health and safety initiatives. A few months back, K-Line applied for the 2015 Canada’s Safest Employers award and K-Line recently received confirmation of winning the 2015 award. The confirmation letter read: On behalf of Canadian Occupational Safety, I would like to congratulate you (K-Line) on being a Winner at this year’s Canada’s Safest Employers Awards. As a recipient of a Gold Award you have been recognized as an organization that sets an example by holding the safety and welfare of its employees in the highest importance.” We would like to formally congratulate the K-Line Team on making this win possible. It is the actions and commitment of our employees which make K-Line one of the safest companies in Canada. It is an honour to be awarded this accomplishment. Congratulations to the whole K-Line Team!


K-Line Wins Stouffville Chamber of Commerce Large Business of the Year Award : Nov 26, 2015

On Wednesday, November 18th, 2015, K-Line was honoured to receive the Stouffville Chamber of Commerce Award for Large Business of the Year. The award recognizes “a successful enterprise who is judged by an independent panel”. K-Line is honoured to be recognized by the community in which we are proud to be a part of.

Social Media Features K-Line in Medicine Hat : Jul 1, 2015

As of June 2015 the City of Medicine Hat is K-Line’s newest customer. K-Line has been awarded the job of changing out 400 insulators as well as working on transmission structure changes. K-Line will have a 5 man live-line crew  assigned to these projects to ensure their successful completion. However, prior to even commencing these projects, the City of Medicine Hat called on K-Line’s assistance with some emergency trouble work. On June 14th, 2015 the city posted this picture on their Facebook page. The picture depicts K-Line crews working alongside other utility workers in an effort to repair the system after heavy storms. Many local citizens posted comments on this picture expressing their appreciation. While K-Line has only been working for the City of Medicine Hat for a short period of time, we have already received fantastic feedback, and we have our wonderful employees to thank for that! There is more work coming down the pipeline with the City of Medicine Hat, and we eagerly await building a strong and lasting relationship with our new customer. Thank you also to our wonderful employees who assisted in the June trouble work. 


National Honours for K-Line : Jun 1, 2015

On Thursday May 14, 2015, K-Line was featured in the local newspaper, the Stouffville Tribune. “National Honours for K-Line” the title read and went on to say, “K-Line is a winner in the 2014 Canada’s Best Managed Companies award program, recognizing excellence in Canadian owned and managed companies…”. K-Line is proud to call Stouffville home to our corporate head office and we are honoured to be featured in our  newspaper as a local business success story.

The Power of Our Past, Brightens Our Future! : May 4, 2015

Another AGM season has come and gone, and the 2015 year was another great success! In previous years, our AGMs featured only one keynote speaker. This year K-Line decided to shake it up and feature a variety of external and internal industry experts and alliance partners specific to each province where we hosted an AGM. This twist was well received with feedback that the different speakers brought interesting insight into our shared industry, partnership model and perspectives of K-Line’s past, present and future. K-Line would like to send a very special thank-you to the nine presenters/ panelists at this year’s 2015 AGMs. Your insights, stories, projections and updates were much appreciated. Our employees thoroughly enjoyed learning about K-Line’s rich history from Mark & Allan Kellett, about our present from divisional managers, and our future from our guest speakers. After this years’ AGMs, one thing is for certain, the          Power of Our Past, Brightens our Future! 


Raising the Bar : Apr 6, 2015

K-Line and our partners, Ampjack, are taking part in a project that is the first of its kind not only for SaskPower but for Canada as well; lifting live lines to renew infrastructure and improve safety. SaskPower released an article and 2 videos demonstrating this work.  When the lines were constructed in the 60’s they were built at a  standard that provided minimum ground clearance. 50 years later, this poses a problem to public  safety because vehicle and equipment sizes have grown, meaning there is less equipment-to-wire clearance.  This is especially true in the summer months when customer demand reaches its peak, causing the lines to heat up, expand and the lower conductor to sag creating less vertical clearance. K-Line is taking part in the solution.  “Workers scurry to hook up four small jacks, one inside each leg of the tower. The jacks are then used to lift the top of the structures almost five metres or 15 feet into the air. Like clockwork, the workers raise the overhead lines that run over top of a well-travelled grid road.” The project will continue over the course of 2015, and will see the lift of 26 towers over 13 roadways.  Captured below is an image of one of our K-Line employees who was featured in a SaskPower video highlighting the tower raising.

Encouraging Safe Work for Young Workers : Jan 13, 2015

On January 12th, 2015, K-Line was honoured to be invited by MySafeWork to present alongside them at the Judith Nyman Secondary School on workplace safety for young workers. Donning our "Jerseys of Courage" we encouraged the young students to ask questions at work, request proper training before conducting workplace activities and to never be afraid to point out unsafe work practices.

K-Line a Finalist for Canada's Best Managed Companies Award : Nov 20, 2014

In early September, K-Line had the distinct pleasure of being nominated by the Town of Whitchurch– Stouffville to apply for Deloitte’s Best Managed Companies Award. This is the country’s leading business award program, recognizing excellence in Canadian owned and managed companies with revenues over $10 million. Since our time of nomination, K-Line has been working relentlessly to complete all the requirements under the application process. With great pride, K-Line is pleased to announce that we have successfully passed the first two phases and we are now a finalist. On Tuesday November 18th, 2014, Deloitte hosted a Gala for the finalist companies, where K-Line received a certificate which reads “In acknowledgement of your outstanding achievement, it is with great pride that we recognize K-Line Maintenance & Construction Ltd. as a regional finalist in the Canada’s Best Managed Companies Program”. The winners for the 2014 Best Managed Companies Award will be announced in mid-December.

11th Annual PowerStream Charity Golf Tournament : Sep 4, 2014

Every year PowerStream hosts a charity golf tournament where all proceeds go to the United Way Agencies in York Region and Greater Simcoe County. In 2012 the golf tournament raised $90,000.00, bringing to total donation to over $300,000.00 since the 2008 tournament. This year the tournament took place on September 4th, 2014. K-Line Maintenance & Construction Ltd. and K-Line Insulators Ltd. are proud to have been a Titanium Sponsor and a Silver Exclusive Hole Sponsor for the event. Grand Renewable Energy Project : Aug 11, 2014

Over the last several months, K-Line has been busy working on the Grand Renewable Energy Project (GREP), in Cayuga, Ontario. To-date, GREP is North America's largest combination Windmill and Solar Farm. Five Year Alliance Agreement : Jul 4, 2014

Enersource Corporation, the successor company of Hydro Mississauga, distributes electricity to approximately 205,000 customers. Their increased demand for distribution infrastructure upgrades and capital works lead to a need for a highly skilled, safe and reliable service provider. Enersource went to market looking for an alliance partner to conduct general utility construction and maintenance services for three years with two, one year renewal options. K-Line answered the call and came out on top, proving to be the contractor of choice. K-Line will have multiple crews working for Enersource starting on July 1, 2014. K-Line and Enersource are excited to build upon an already strong working relationship.

Breaking Out with the Most Adventurous AGM Yet : May 2, 2014

Getting outside of your comfort zone is never an easy task, yet K-Line demonstrates on a daily basis the reward of taking managed risk– ISO & OHSAS certification, numerous safety awards, new business opportunities and a competitive edge. Bruce Kirkby, K-Line’s 2014 key note presenter has spent the last twenty years leading a life of exploration and high adventure. Bruce knows a thing or two about breaking out of his comfort zone as his journeys have taken him to the wildest and most remote corners of the planet; from Africa to the high Arctic; from Mt. Everest to Arabia. With Bruce’s expert knowledge in this area, K-Line was more than thrilled to have him as our Keynote presenter for our 2014 AGMs. Along side Bruce, K-Line’s managerial and executive team produced an engaging presentation highlighting how K-Line has broken out of our comfort zone over the course of this past year, the rewards of our managed risk taking and areas to continue to do so in the future. This years presentation was laden with humor and featured an employee appreciation video highlighting the fun and hard work our K-Line employees demonstrate on a daily basis. Thank you all employees for your participation this year, it was another fantastic AGM season!

A Proud Safety Champion for Young Workers : Apr 25, 2014

On Wednesday April 23rd, 2014 Dave Hannon and Vanessa Dash from K-Line's Health & Safety Division joined Rob Ellis for a MySafeWork presentation at Sandalwood Heights Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario. In 1999, Rob's 18 year old son was tragically killed as a result of a workplace accident and Rob has since dedicated his life to keeping young and vulnerable workers safe at work. Rob travels across North America visiting high schools and educating youth on workplace safety, encouraging them to choose to work for safe employers and inviting them to ask questions- no question is off limits. Rob enlists the support of "safety champions" to promote young workers safety. K-Line is proud to be a "safety champion" and supporter of MySafeWork.

A New Partnership : Mar 31, 2014

At the beginning of 2013, K-Line was awarded a Service Agreement with Enmax Corporation for Distribution and Transmission. Early this year, K-Line was awarded a Transmission Project in the heart of Calgary, Alberta. The scope of this project is extremely complex and consists of several components, including building a 3km 138kV line parallel to an existing line, building a green field component, crossing the Bow River and the Deer Foot Highway, as well as crossing three sets of train tracks. The use of a helicopter company will also come into play later in the project to assist in pulling the ropes in. This is a great opportunity for K-Line as Transmission Projects is an area we have not previously specialized in but with our new Transmission Division and Manager of Transmission Operations, this is an area we will be focusing more strongly on to remain the One Source Solution. To assist in ensuring this project runs smoothly, K-Line has partnered with Hooper Corporation headquartered in Wisconsin, USA. Hooper is providing assistance in training our employees on transmission projects. This project is scheduled to finish by the first week of May 2014.

An Adventure Soon Awaits- The 2014 AGMs : Feb 28, 2014

Do you enjoy looking for new opportunities, getting outside of your comfort zone, and exploring unchartered territories? Well, if you are adventuresome this year's AGM promises to be a wild one! The previous year's AGMs have continued a steady climb to being terrific events-highlighted by keynote presentations from celebrities including: Michael "Pinball" Clemons, Adam Kreek, Mike Mandel and Scott Kress. This year's AGM has been finalized and promises to be an excellent event. With presentations updating employees on the company direction, status updates on the safety and quality management systems, and updates from the Operational Manager's on divisional performance, capped with a keynote presentation- this year's event will soar to new heights. With a keynote presenter described as "Absolutely Sensational" and "Spellbinding" this premier event is sure to speak to you.

From February 3rd to 5th, 2014, the Saskatchewan Safety Council hosted its 41st Annual Industrial Safety Seminar in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. K-Line is proud to have been a Silver Sponsor of the event, and featured as a case study highlighting safety and company engagement best practices.

Ice Storm Heroes : Jan 30, 2014

Starting in the evening of December 20th, 2013 a storm brought freezing rain overnight, coating trees with ice and bringing down a devastating number of powerlines. Leaving half a million Ontario electricity customers without power, K-Line was quick to assist in the restoration efforts. With K-Line crews supporting Milton Hydro, Horizon Utilities Corporation, Oakville Hydro, Burlington Hydro, Powerstream, Veridian Connections and Toronto Hydro, K-Line had close to 90 people relentlessly working for several days on end. K-Line Secures Oakville for 5 More Years : Dec 18, 2013

Oakville Hydro, the Local Distribution Company (LDC) in the town of Oakville, has re-signed a five year contract with K-Line beginning January 1st, 2014. In the final months of this calendar year the Sales team was monitoring the Oakville contract as it had a set expiry date for the end of this calendar year. K-Line assumed the current contract after the acquisition of McG Pole Line and began offering professional, knowledgeable, and safe resources to Oakville Hydro. Oakville has been very pleased with the way K-Line provides a safe, quality and productive service that assists their customers, helps rebuild their infrastructure and responds to system needs. The ability to retain a customer like Oakville Hydro works well with our GTA West neighbouring customers: Horizon Utilities Corporation and Burlington Hydro.

K-Line Attends First Nations Job Fair : Dec 1, 2013

On Wednesday November 13, 2013 K-Line's Projects Division and Human Resources Division partnered to attend a Job Fair held in the Community Hall on the Six Nations Reserve in Ohsweken, Ontario. First nation reserves are the fastest growing segment in the Canadian population and can have resources available to work in the trades and on electricity and renewable energy projects. The career fair provided an excellent opportunity to spread awareness on the powerline trade and opportunities at K-Line.


K-Line Score Certification Hat-Trick : Nov 12, 2013

It is an age-old tradition in the National Hockey League (NHL) for fans to toss their baseball hats on the ice when a player scores three goals in one game- passionately known as a "hat-trick". With the recent Certification Audits, K-Line has scored a "hat-trick" of its own: three audits- three successful outcomes. The development and implementation of the Integrated Management System began in earnest in 2008 and in 2013 all divisions across the country scored the "Certification Goal". Congratulations to all employees, time to toss a hat! Less than 5% of company's achieve certification without any non-conformances. K-Line went 3 for 3.  

Alberta Registration Audit : Oct 15, 2013

Earlier this year, K-Line decided to bring the Alberta Operations into the Integrated Management System (IMS) and be audited with the Ontario and Saskatchewan Operations for Registration. The Alberta Registration Audit was held the week of October 11th, 2013 and the auditors have "Recommended for Certification" the management system to ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001. This audit makes K-Line three for three. Meaning, K-Line has successfully been certified to ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 in all three provinces in which we operate. This is a substantial accomplishment for K-Line, and we would like to thank everyone who was involved and saw this certification process through to completion.

Recommended for Certification : Oct 1, 2013

Following a long journey over the past few years, K-Line is pleased to announce that the Saskatchewan Divisions were successful in being "Recommended for Certification" following the Registration Audit held September 23-25th, 2013. The auditor's reports and assessments are reviewed by the registrar and we should hear soon when the K-Line Management System has been registered to the ISO 9001 Quality Management and OHSAS Health and Safety Management Systems. Thank you to all of the people that worked very hard in advance of the audit and for taking the time during the audit to show records and for explaining their knowledge of company processes and procedures. The auditors were impressed by our field operations during their two field visits- thank you to Justin Bennett and his crew and to Bob Heskin, Ryan Zuchkan, Ryan Onufreychuk and their crews for hosting the audit team on your sites. A big thank you also goes to the audit team for their hard work and efforts prior to- and during the audit. Congratulations to all Saskatchewan employees!

Empowering the Future Today - November 6-7, 2013 : Sep 10, 2013

The 2013 Electricity Human Resources Canada Conference is the national conference dedicated to the electricity and renewable energy industry workforce. This two day national conference will bring business leaders and human resource professionals together.  Attended by employers, labour, education, and government representatives working for and with the sector. New K-Line Policy Statements Roll Out : Sep 10, 2013

The New 2014 Health & Safety, Quality, and the Respect in Our Workplaces Policy Statements have arrived. One major change this year is the addition of a newly developed Environmental Policy Statement. Previously, K-Line had an "Environment Policy", which has been enhanced and improved to a similar level of the other major corporate policies. In 2013, the Environment was included in the Health and Safety Policy Statement. This year, each area has a stand-alone policy as our customers are increasing their demands and requirements for environmental management and protection. The policy statements are reviewed annually to ensure the business programs and objectives are continually improving and reflect the priorities for the year. Changes to this year's statements include: adding our new ISO 9001 & 18001 certifications, new company photos, colour themes and alignment with new corporate objectives. The commitment to health and safety has not changed.

K-Line Registered to ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 : Aug 7, 2013

The Ontario Divisions of K-Line and K-Tek have been certified to both the ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and OHSAS 18001 (Health and Safety Management) Standards. As was highlighted during the Annual General Meetings (AGMs), having these certifications demonstrates that we meet a high level of safety and quality, and that the organization has a system in place to manage these aspects. It also shows a commitment to continually improving. K-Line is committed to taking the appropriate actions to make improvements in the future. In the month of September, the Saskatchewan Divisions of K-Line Maintenance & Construction Ltd. will be undergoing its registration audit for its certification to these two standards and in October, the Alberta Divisions will be undergoing its registration audit. Having these certifications sets K-Line apart from our competition and gives the organization a competitive advantage.

K-Line AGMs Lead the Way : Jul 10, 2013

Think of all the ways K-Line leads the way: in Quality, Health and Safety, Human Capital, and Operations- and you will get a good sense of the theme of the recent 2013 K-Line Annual General Meetings.  In Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta K-Line is Leading the Way and setting our organization apart, working towards a high performing team in the process. This theme was highlighted by a keynote presentation by Scott Kress, the 51st Canadian to climb Mount Everest and the 15th Canadian to climb the seven summits on the seven continents of the planet. Kress noted that “There are no short-cuts to the top” and that high performance teams that remain in the “Circle of Influence” are critical elements to success. Kress says that Teamwork is the single most important factor in organizational success. K-Line would like to thank all employees for their participation in the 2013 AGMs.

K-Line Takes on Vulcan, Alberta : May 7, 2013

A safety message of energy, enthusiasm, and innovation was front and centre in Vulcan, Alberta on Tuesday April 30th when Safety Champion Rob Ellis motivated and inspired over 300 students. Rob Ellis (K-Line's AGM keynote presenter in 2011) was joined by representatives from K-Line, DuPont Canada, and Fortis Alberta.


K-Line Attends Regina Career Fair : Apr 10, 2013

On April 4th, 2013, K-Line attended the ReginaJobShop Spring Career Fair in Saskatchewan. K-Line's booth at the fair featured our many services and areas of employment. With a video of our last AGM playing in the background, our booth was frequently visited by interested candidates. With over 400 participants attending, and media coverage by a local radio station and Global TV News, the career fair was a success.

For several years, K-Line has been involved in and has supported the Saskatchewan Better Business Bureau (BBB) Torch Awards. The Torch Award is an overall recognition to companies for excellence in business- in ethics, customer satisfaction and practices including sales and marketing. K-Line was fortunate to be a recipient of a Torch Award in 2009. Since then, K-Line has been an active sponsor of the Torch Awards event to continue to promote positive business practices and to recognize companies that go above meeting the minimum standard.
